And now enjoy Carole's Excerpt:

“You’re a strong woman, but you’re no match for a whole bunch of the elders. You’ll have no power against their strength. Don’t be foolish. How well did you do tonight?”

He was right. She sagged into the back of the seat. Stared into the dark. “I can’t go yet. I need a few more days.”

“I guess now’s the time to tell you what happened earlier this evening.”

“Earlier? What are you talking about?”

“Elder Simmons sent Glenn Leonard and Marshall Biggs to your house tonight.”

“Why?”

“What do you think? They wanted to scare you by taking the girls.”

Cara wrapped her arms around her body and whimpered. What was she going to do? If only— “Is that how you got the black eye?”

“Yes, but don’t worry about me. You need to leave.”

She raised a hand and stroked his cheek, touched the skin around his eyes. “Those men hit you while you protected my girls?” He’d done this for her, for her girls. There was no way he could be working against her. Not and suffer a hit like this. “It gives you a roguish look.”

“Listen to me.” When she didn’t answer, he spoke again. Slowly. “Why do you insist on staying? Your reasoning is crazy. In fact, you never give me a good reason. Ever.”

Cara’s bottom lip quivered and she sucked in her breath.

Steady. I can’t let his persuasion influence me. But, oh, how she wanted to.

“Cara, at least promise me you’ll think about what I’ve said. I couldn’t stand it if something serious happened to you.”

A strong statement. What did he mean? Because … The thought Dayne might care melted the hard lump residing somewhere inside her chest.

“Do you need money? I could—”

“No, thanks. I have Donald’s life insurance money coming.”

She sensed the questions bubbling inside him. Wondering,
probably. She fought back the urge to tell him too much.

Saint Dayne versus Sinner Cara.
Nope. Wouldn’t work. The sooner she forgot him—the sooner she got away from him—the better.

For her.

For him.

As Christmas creeps closer, let's also remember how God so loves us that He sent His only son to ransom us. Now that is a love story!
